2013 Men's Soccer Season Recap

High expectations were heaped on the 2013 Rosemont men’s soccer team after the team made the post-season the last two seasons including an appearance in the CSAC championship game in 2012. The Ravens were selected to 4th place in the coaches pre-season poll. Ultimately the reality of the season did not live up to those expectations in 2013 as the team finished their season with a record of 5-13 (3-6 CSAC). The Ravens ended their season in 7th place in the CSAC, missing the post-season by one point.

The Ravens particularly suffered on the road, going 1-7 overall away from Ravens Field (0-3 conference). In the conference the Ravens lost four of their six games by only one goal.

The team did boast some firsts this season, including the first game played on Ravens Field on the Ravens Athletic Complex on 8/31. The Ravens also played the first night game on Ravens Field against Delaware Valley College on 9/26.

A difficult non-conference schedule and a rough start to the conference schedule got the Ravens off to a tough record, going 2-12 over their first 14 games (1-5 CSAC). Rosemont regrouped and finished the sesaon on a high note winning three of their final four games, with their only loss down that stretch coming at Centenary (2013 CSAC Champions) in double-overtime.

Junior Luke McIlvaine led the Ravens in scoring this season. Playing in only 13 of his team’s 18 games due to an early-season injury, McIlvaine scored six goals and assisted on one other goal. Three of his goals were game-winners. Against Gwynedd-Mercy he kicked the program’s first “hat trick”. At the conclusion of the season McIlvaine was named to the All-CSAC Second Team.

Rookie Ansu Corneh was named to the All-CSAC Honorable Mention team this season. Corneh figured in many of Rosemont’s steals and showed his skill in advancing the ball down the field to his teammates for scoring opportunities.

Sophomore Javier Alvarado finished second on the team in goals scored and first in assists. His nine points placed him second best for the Ravens.

Junior Yohana Ghede notched three scores and an assist this season for seven points. He tied for second place on the team for number of goals scored. One of his goals was a game-winner. Senior defenseman Tom Bottoms scored multiple goals and assists (2+2) for the Ravens, finishing the season with six points. Junior Bob Vetrano also found the goal twice and had two assists. One of his goals was a game-winner.

Junior keeper Max McDonald filled most of the duties in the goal, playing 1,525 minutes in goal and ceding a 2.24 goals-against average.

Junior Don Tees was named to the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Ravens have 18 underclassmen on their roster and they will look to build off of their end of the season success and have a bounce-back year in 2014.
