ALLENTOWN – Junior captain Priyanka Reddy (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) booked her ticket into the first singles finals of the Colonial States Athletic Conference’s Individual Championships for the third straight year. Reddy defeated Gwynedd Mercy’s Davida Phillips in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 on day one of the two day championship event held at the West End Racquet Club in Allentown, Pa.

Phillips jumped to a 4-1 lead in the first set after breaking Reddy’s serve twice, before Reddy battled back and won the next five consecutive games. In the second set, Phillips again had the early break, before Reddy evened the set out at 3-3 and eventually took the set and match.

Reddy also competed in the first doubles semifinal with first year partner Winnie Wolfe (Wayne/Radnor) against Gwynedd Mercy. Reddy and Wolfe had an early break before the Griffins fought back and won the match 8-4.

Wolfe competed in the second singles semifinal against Cabrini College’s Christine Telling. It would not be her day though, with Telling getting the straight set victory 6-1, 6-1.

Before play began, the conference announced its end of the year honors. Reddy captured the Player of the Year award. Reddy was 15-0 in the regular season, continuing her undefeated collegiate career. This is her third year winning the award.

Wolfe also took home some hardware winning Rookie of the Year. At second singles, Wolfe was 9-4 in her first season.

Reddy will return for the final day of the championships on Saturday, October 25. She will take on Cabrini’s Dina DiTaranto for the finals of the first singles flight.
