ROSEMONT – Three goals from Joe DeSteffano helped Penn State – Altoona earn a 4-1 win over the Rosemont College men’s soccer team Monday. This non-conference loss drops the Ravens to 2-4 overall.

The Nittany Lions opened the scoring first with a goal from DeSteffano off a corner kick in the 27th minute of play. He followed that up with another goal in the 41st minute of play off a left side pass from Nicholas Kline.

Rosemont quickly retaliated driving the ball down the field. First year Patrick McElroy (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) capitalized on a good throw in from first year Ryan Hartzell (Willow Grove/Upper Dublin) to put the team to within one.

In the second, the Ravens had several good scoring opportunities but were unable to close the deal. Penn State quickly put any chance of a Rosemont comeback with goals in the 86th and 87th minutes of the game.

McElroy now has a team leading three goals on the season.

First year goalkeeper Ron Vogelei (Bensalem) had 13 saves off of 21 Nittany Lion shots.

As a team, the Ravens compiled 16 shots, three on goal, and one corner kick on the afternoon.

Next up, Rosemont gets back into conference action as it takes on Cabrini College on Saturday, September 26. Game time is 1pm and will be at Rosemont.
