ROSEMONT – With the help of three goals from first year Gina Donnelly (Horsham/Phila. High School for Girls), the Rosemont College field hockey team won its first conference game of the year against College of Notre Dame 4-2. This win improves the Ravens to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference while the Gators drop to 1-9 and 1-3, respectively.

It was Notre Dame who got on the board first in the 26th minute when Caitlin Quinn dodged goalkeeper Adriann Demchenko (Philadelphia/George Washington) to put it in the back of the cage.

The Ravens responded in the 31st when Donnelly opened up her tab for the afternoon by deflecting a cross from senior co-captain Liz Kemp (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown).

Donnelly would open the second half with another deflection in the 47th minute, this time from first year Ashley Montecchio (Aston/Sun Valley) to give Rosemont the lead.   Sophomore Caitlin Edgar would give the team a cushion by scoring in the 50th off a pass from first year Alycia Cresta (Portsmouth/Portsmouth, N.H.).

Notre Dame pulled within one when Rachel Jones scored off a one on one with Demchenko. Donnelly would go on to put all hopes of a comeback to rest though, scoring her third of the afternoon in the 64th, this time from junior Ashley Conti (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley).

As a team, Rosemont recorded 11 shots to the Gators’ 8. They also recorded 11 penalty corners and did not allow any on their defensive end.

The Ravens now improves to 2-1 against Notre Dame in head to head competition.

Rosemont will next travel to Cabrini College for a conference contest on Saturday October 10th at 11am.
