O’NEIL HAT TRICK LIFTS GRIFFINS OVER ROSEMONT

ROSEMONT – Three goals and an assist from sophomore Dottie O’Neil (Bensalem) helped Gwynedd Mercy College defeat Rosemont College 12-0 in field hockey action Sunday. The Griffins now improve to 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference and 5-3 overall while Rosemont drops to 0-1 in the CSAC and 0-6 overall.
Gwynedd opened up the scoring in the 9th minute of play when sophomore Christine Hammit (Delran, N.J./Delran) deflected a pass from O’Neil past Rosemont goalkeeper Adriann Demchenko (Philadelphia/George Washington). They would go on to score four more in the period, two from Hammit.
It was the same story in the second with O’Neil opening up the scoring on an unassisted deflection. She would get the hat trick in the 39th minute of play against on an unassisted shot. Sophomore Kayla Farrow (Etters/Red Land) recorded two goals in the half as well.
Demchenko finished the day with 18 saves off of 43 Griffin shots. The Ravens got off one shot and Gwynedd goalkeepers Kate Eschbach (Pennsburg/Upper Perkiomen) and Ashley McGinty (Philadelphia/Little Flower) each played a half to record the shutout.
Rosemont will continue conference play as they host Marywood University on Tuesday, September 29th at 4pm.
