PACER’S BIANCHETTI DOUBLES-UP RAMBLERS
SCRANTON, Pa- The Rambler softball team fell twice to the Marywood University Pacers this afternoon by scores of 12-1 and 16-1. Rosemont’s overall record moves to 0-23 (0-18 PAC). The games were played under comfortable, mostly sunny skies in Scranton. But it was the Pacers, especially pitcher Lauren Bianchetti, who best enjoyed the sunshine, winning both games and pitching all ten innings against the Ramblers. Bianchetti yielded four hits in each of the games.
Both games followed the same unsuccessful scenario for Rosemont. That is, committing multiple errors in the first inning, allowing the Pacers to take control of the game early, and not having the offensive ammunition to make a run at Marywood.
In game one senior pitcher Kaitlin Rogers (Bartram/Philadelphia, PA) was victimized by two errors in the first inning, helping to send fifteen Marywood batters to the plate and resulting in a nine-run frame. Junior Tammy Do (Maria Goretti, Philadelphia, PA) scored the lone run for the Ramblers, knocked in by Abby Schwartz (Haddonfield Memorial, Haddonfield, NJ) in the fourth inning.
The Pacers sent 17 batters to the plate and put up twelve runs in the first inning of the second game as the Ramblers committed four errors in the inning. Of the sixteen runs scored by Marywood in game two, only four were earned. Rosemont’s run came in the third inning when junior Jess Muff (Archbishop Prendergast, Upper Darby, PA) knocked in sophomore Alex Benford (Bishop Eustace, Cherry Hill, PA) on a groundout to third.
Benfold led the Ramblers in hitting today, batting 3-for-4 with a run scored. Rogers had one hit from her lead-off position in the first inning of each game.
The Ramblers return home tomorrow to wind up their 2008 schedule and to honor their two seniors as they host the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm. For all the latest news and updates, please visit our website at www.rosemont.edu.
