LA PLUME, Pa. - The Rosemont College women's tennis team made the long trip to Keystone College today to meet the Giants. The trip was worth it.
Thanks to winning five of six singles matches, the Ravens were able to win the match by a count of 6-3. The win pushed Rosemont's record over the .500 mark in the conference (5-4 CSAC), and are 5-7 overall.
Things did not look bright for the Ravens early on, as the team was only able to secure one of the three doubles matches. The tandem of junior Olesya Kuchma (St. Davids, PA) and first year Kirsten Sanford (Yardley, PA) won their #1 doubles flight match in a tight set (8-6), so the Ravens were only 1-2 after the three doubles matches were completed. The win improved the Kuchma/Sanford doubles team's record to an undefeated 4-0 this season.
Things picked up for Rosemont in the one-on-ones, however, as the Ravens won the #1 through #5 singles flights. Kuchma won the #1 flight (6-1, 6-1) to up her record to 7-1 on the season.
In the #2 flight junior Karis Coad (Baltimore, MD) had a relatively easy time in her match, winning 6-2, 6-0.
In the #3 flight, sophomore Kayla Coad (Baltimore, MD) won 6-2, 7-5. Sanford won her #4 singles match 6-3, 6-1 to go over the .500 mark for the season at 3-2. In the #5 slot junior Barb Lally (Philadelphia, PA) defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-2.
Finally, in the #6 flight first year Kristy Evans (Bethlehem, PA) made a strong bid for a comeback. After losing her first set 0-6, she put up a fight but lost the second set 5-7 on an 8-10 tie-break.
The Ravens close out their CSAC schedule on Saturday, 10/15 when they host the Baptist Bible College Defenders. The matches are scheduled to begin at noon.
