ROSEMONT – Despite a goal from first year Patrick McElroy (Stratford, N.J./Sterling), the Rosemont College men’s soccer team lost its final conference game to Centenary College 2-1 Saturday. This loss drops the team out of playoff contention and ends the season 6-9 overall and 3-6 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The Cyclones earn a playoff berth and end the regular season 3-4-2 overall and 3-9-2 in the CSAC.
It was all Centenary in the first half with the team dominating possession. Alex Asoera scored the opening goal off a pass from Matt Winkler in the 31st minute. Shortly after, a controversial foul called in the 37th minute outside of the box allowed Andrew Pinella to score off the set piece. The Cyclones would go into the half up 2-0.
McElroy scored his goal in the 57th minute off a deflection by Centenary keeper Jason Rogers. Rosemont would earn several scoring opportunities following, but were unable to convert any to goals. Rogers ended the game with 21 saves off of 22 shots.
Rosemont goalkeeper Ron Vogelei (Bensalem) stopped five off of 20 shots. In total, the Ravens notched 22 shots and three corner kicks.
This concludes the Ravens season.
