ROSEMONT DEALT TWO TOUGH LOSSES FROM GIANTS
2009-04-18 00:24
ROSEMONT – Despite three hits and an RBI from junior Christa Bednarek (Philadelphia/St. Basil’s), the Ramblers dropped two to conference opponents Keystone College 20-5, 21-12 Friday. This loss drops the team to 0-17 overall and 0-12 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
In game two, Bednarek broke open a five-run inning with a single up the middle in the first inning. This marks the first time in two seasons the Ramblers have led in a game. The Giants would not be subdued though as they took a 10-5 lead in the third in a six run inning.
The Ramblers threatened again in the fifth, scoring six runs off of five walks and two hits, including a two-run double from junior Adriann Demchenko (Philadelphia/George Washington) to bring it to within one. It would be as close as the team would get as Keystone scored eight in the seventh to seal the victory.
Demchenko finished the day with two hits and three RBI.
First year pitcher Caitlin Mazzoni (Middletown, Del./Middletown) pitched seven innings striking out three and giving up nine earned runs.
In game one, Rambler errors proved to be the Achilles heel as they committed eight over five innings allowing 12 unearned runs.
Rosemont got on the board in the third, when first year Rebecca Zimmerman (Lebanon/Annville Cleona) hit a double to left to score two. Zimmerman finished the day with two hits and three RBI.
The Ramblers tried to mount a comeback in the fifth by scoring three runs off of five walks and a hit from Bednarek, but it would not be enough and the game ended 20-5.
Rosemont gets right back into action when they head to Hackettstown, N.J. to take on Centenary College in conference action on Saturday, April 18th at 2pm.
