ROSEMONT- The Rosemont softball team dropped two close games to the Lincoln University Lions 4-9, 23-24 in non-conference action Tuesday. This loss drops the Ramblers to 0-9 overall.

In game two, the Ramblers went into the bottom of the fifth down 19-24. After loading the bases with two walks and a single, junior Alex Benfold (Cherry Hill, N.J./Bishop Eustace) scored on an error. Right after, three straight wild pitches scored three Rambler runners to bring it to within one. It would be as close as the Ramblers would get as sophomore Krissy Muff (Upper Darby/Archbishop Prendergast) was caught stealing home on a wild pitch. The game was then called due to darkness.

The Ramblers opened up the scoring in the first inning when first year Becky Zimmerman (Lebanon/Annville Cleona) hit an RBI triple to score sophomore Ashley Conti (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley).

Zimmerman finished the day going four for six (.666) with four RBIs.

The Ramblers would go on to score in every inning of play including 10 runs in the fourth.

In game one, errors plagued Rosemont as they committed five and allowed the Lions to score in all but one inning of play. Rosemont got on the board in the fourth when sophomore Heather Daneker (New Cumberland/Cedar Cliff) singled and came around to score on passed balls.

In the fifth inning, sophomore Christa Bednarek (Philadelphia/St. Basil’s) hit a single to center and came all the way home off an error in centerfield to bring it to 2-7.

The Ramblers got their final two runs in the bottom of the seventh when Zimmerman and Daneker both had RBI doubles.

Daneker finished the game four for seven (.571) with two RBIs.

First year Caitlin Mazzoni (Middletown, Del./Middletown) pitched seven strong innings giving up three earned runs and striking out 10 in game one while Daneker had 10 earned runs with one strikeout in five innings of action in game two.

Also for Rosemont, junior Adriann Demchenko (Philadelphia/George Washington) was two for four (.500) with five RBIs.

As a team the Ramblers compiled six hits in game one and 11 in game two scoring a total of 27 runs total, their most of the season. The team’s 23 runs is the new Rosemont record for most runs scored in a game.

The Ramblers will head back into conference action against College of Notre Dame on Friday, March 27th at 3pm in Rosemont, Pa.
