ROSEMONT RALLY NOT ENOUGH

ROSEMONT– Despite 11 kills and 13 digs from first year Robin Renodo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Laughlin), the Rosemont College women’s volleyball team dropped a Colonial States Athletic Conference match to Gwynedd-Mercy 3-1 Thursday night. This loss drops the Ravens to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in the CSAC while the Griffins improve to 4-14 and 1-1, respectively.
Rosemont dropped the first two sets 25-19 and 25-23 despite holding leads as big as six. It was a whole other team in the third with Rosemont making a run to take a 22-17 lead. They would go on to win 25-20 forcing a fourth set.
In set four, Rosemont killed four Griffin set points and earned two, but were unable to finish it out and lost 30-28.
For Gwynedd, Nicole Burke led the team in kills with 11. She also notched 27 digs. Kristen Gambone proved to be a strong catalyst earning 32 assists.
Junior co-captain Christa Bednarek (Philadelphia/St. Basils) ended the night with 20 assists for the Ravens and Jessica DeMaskey (West Chester/West Chester East) led the team in digs with 13.
In head to head competition, the Griffins now improve to 17-8 against the Rosemont.
Next up, Rosemont hosts Trinity University (D.C.) in a non-conference match Saturday, October 3 at 1pm.
