ROSEMONT SWEEPS CRIMSON EAGLES

ROSEMONT – The Rosemont College women’s tennis team pushed passed a weather delay to defeat Philadelphia Biblical University 9-0 in conference play Saturday. The game, originally slated for a 1pm start, was pushed back when morning rain dampened the courts. This win lifts the team’s record to 6-6 overall and 6-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

The Ravens opened up the match with a clean sweep of doubles. Senior captain Priyanka Reddy (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) and first year Olesya Kuchma (St. Davids/Radnor) blitzed their first doubles opponents 8-0 as did third doubles partners Lauren Rivera (Penn Valley/Harriton) and Barbara Lally (Philadelphia/Penn Charter).   First years Karis Coad (Baltimore, Md./Clarkstown South) and Kate Clarkson (Bensalem) fought hard in second doubles and won 8-5.

In singles action, Rosemont took each in straight sets. Reddy, who was honored as the team’s lone senior, once again showed why she is the player to beat defeating her first singles opponent 6-3, 6-0. Reddy is now 12-0 on the season.

Kuchma also was dominant at second singles winning 6-0, 6-1 while Coad had a smooth third singles match winning 6-3, 6-1.

Rounding out the winners was Lally, Rivera and Clarkson. Lally won at fourth singles 6-2, 6-1. Rivera and Clarkson switched it up this match with Rivera playing for the first time at fifth singles and Clarkson at sixth. Neither was fazed with Rivera winning 6-1, 6-0 and Clarkson 6-0, 6-0.

Rosemont finishes up the season on Sunday, October 11th with a pivotal match against Marywood University. Both teams are fighting for the final spot in the CSAC playoffs. Match time is set at noon.
