Volleyball

The Rambler volleyball team had a season of highs and lows. They welcomed former player and assistant coach Megan Whitman (06’) as their new head coach as well as former player Veronica Bates (07’) as their new assistant. The Ramblers started out their season with a win, their first season opener win since 1991, and their first win since 2005. They went on to win 2 more games in the season against Penn Stat Abington and Penn State Berks shortly after. After a strong start, the Ramblers faced some tough opponents and were unable to get any more victories. They ended the season 3-16 overall and 0-11 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC).

As a team, the Ramblers totaled 269 kills, 141 service aces and 560 digs. All of these were greatly improved from the previous season’s statistics.

Individually, the Ramblers had some strong standouts. First year Karen Boyle (Swarthmore, PA/Arch. Prendergast) led the team in kills with 73. She also led in service aces with 49 and digs with 116.   Not far behind in kills was senior captain Blair Armstrong (Philadelphia, Pa/Little Flower). Armstrong tallied 66 kills as well as 20 service aces and 113 digs. First year Christa Bednarek (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basils) helped out Boyle and Armstrong by tallying 155 assists the team high.   Bednarek also had 99 kills, third highest on the team. Defensively, Boyle had 15 blocks. Sophomore Jessica Demaskey (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) had 5 on the season well as 71 digs.

The Ramblers say goodbye to their seniors Armstrong, Andrea Boyle (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O’Hara), and Jami Fisher (Norristown, PA/Kennedy Kendrick). Rounding out the team this year were juniors Ellen Espaillat (Philadelphia, PA/Olney) and Nancy Phokhaxang (Philadelphia, PA/Olney), and sophomores Emily Donatelli (Point Pleasant, NJ/Red Bank) and Tofunmi Osundeko (DuBois, PA/DuBois).
