2009 Volleyball Overview

The Rosemont College women’s volleyball team had a solid 2009 season. The team finished the 5-16 overall and 0-11 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. First year head coach Joe Corbett led the team to its best start of the year and most wins since 2005.  

Rosemont captured wins against Washington Biblical College, Valley Forge Christian College, Penn State – Abington, Trinity University (DC), and College of St. Elizabeth.

As a team, the Ravens were sixth in the conference in blocks per game (1.02) and digs per game (12.97). In total, they averaged 5.11 kills per set, 1.82 service aces per set and 4.35 assists per set, all significant improvements from the previous year.

Leading the team this year were captains Christa Bednarek and Karen Boyle. Bednarek led the team in assists with 242. This takes her career total to 545 placing her second the Rosemont all time career leaders. Boyle was no slouch leading the team in kills (101), service aces (29), digs (196) and blocks (31). 

In addition, Boyle was named to the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team. She showed a good attitude throughout the season both to her teammates, coaches and opponents.

Just behind Boyle offensively was first year Robin Renodo. Renodo totaled 91 kills, 27 service aces and 124 digs. 

The team graduates three seniors: Jessica DeMaskey, Janise Henderson and Tofunmi Osundeko. DeMaskey finished the season with 195 digs, 10 blocks and 58 kills. Henderson saw action in 17 matches notching 38 kills while Osundeko played in 16 and had 21 service aces.

Rounding out the team were first years Nzinga Kantamanto, Caitlin Mazzoni, Camille Pottinger, Skylar Richards, Dasha Supeville, and Joy Fields and sophomores Victoria Robinson and Ciara Figliuolo.

Corbett is excited for the programs prospects and will surely lead the team to more success under his tenure.
