ROSEMONT RAMBLERS CELEBRATE 07-08 SEASON WITH END-OF-YEAR BANQUET

Rosemont, PA – The Rosemont Athletic department culminated the 2007-2008 season with the annual athletics banquet. The banquet, designed to honor all the accomplishments on and off the field of the student-athletes, is held every year at the end of the sports season. The student-athletes, parents, family and friends all got together in Cardinal Hall on Sunday, April 27th to share memorable moments, accomplishments and have some good food!

The banquet kicked off with senior field hockey and softball player Kristen Reilly (Pottstown, PA/Boyertown) giving the invocation. From there, each team was recognized with the captains of each giving season summaries. Each team member was then recognized.

Next the Rosemont scholar-athletes, those who maintained a 3.3 minimum cumulative GPA or higher in their season, were honored. Fifteen players received the honor. The Athletic Director’s Honor Roll was announced next. This award is given to the team that maintains the highest overall GPA in their season. The 2007 tennis team received this honor with a 3.51 GPA, though all teams had an excellent, academic season with the average GPA of every student-athlete above a 3.0.

Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) awards were up next on the program. For Rosemont, 27 student-athletes were members of the PAC All-Academic Team. This team is comprised of student-athletes with a semester GPA of 3.2 or higher in their season of play. In addition, Rosemont had four all-conference players.

The main athletic awards were up next. Sophomore Elizabeth Kemp (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) was the recipient of the Ann Grady Lucas award. This award is given to a field hockey player that demonstrates strong leadership and dedication to her team. It is only voted on by field hockey team members and coaches. Kemp, a two year starter in midfield, was the team’s co-captain and a member of the 2007 PAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Senior Kristy Bannon (Hanover Twp, PA/Hanover Area) was a double winner on the afternoon receiving the Cathy Mulvaney and Ann S. Donaldson Awards. The Mulvaney award is given to any Rosemont student-athlete that demonstrates excellence on the field and in the classroom as well as showing strong leadership and dedication. It is voted on by Rosemont student-athletes and athletic staff. The Donaldson award is only given out to a junior or senior with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and has shown excellence on the field, in the classroom and the Rosemont community. It is voted on by all members of the Rosemont community. Bannon, a four year starter on the tennis team, has been captain for three years. She along with #1 doubles partner Priyanka Reddy (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) was runner-up in the 2007 PAC championships. Bannon is also the president of the Rosemont Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well as the PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Student-Athletes with special athletic accomplishments were recognized next. Reddy was the 2007 PAC Player of the Year as well as the PAC Champion in #1 singles. Sophomore field hockey goalkeeper Adriann Demchenko (Philadelphia, PA/George Washington) and the field hockey team were the NCAA Division III leaders in saves per game average.

The banquet closed with remarks by Dean of Students Marilyn Moller. Moller will retire after this year and closed the banquet saying that she is proud of all the student-athletes for the accomplishments that they achieved as well as their dedication and service to Rosemont Athletics.

Congratulations to all student-athletes for their hard work and dedication!
