ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT HONORED WITH COMMUNITY SPIRIT AWARD

ROSEMONT, Pa- The Rosemont College Athletics Department was honored with the 2008 Rosemont College Community Spirit Award. The award, given out every year on Founder’s Day, is awarded to both an individual and group who have made significant contributions to serving the entire college community.

In order to be eligible, the group or individual must be nominated by a member of the Rosemont Community. The award is then decided on by the administration of the campus. Members of the community felt that “all the staff members in the Athletic Department consistently go above and beyond the call of duty. They give our student athletes untold hours of their time and expertise on and off the field. They not only coach and support six sports, they teach life skills such as teamwork, integrity and hard work in every aspect of what they do.”

In addition to the administration of the department, the award also encompasses the coaching staff and student-athletes. “[Lynn Rothenhoefer’s] coaches are also committed to growing the program and the college. They spend countless hours talking with prospective students and going to high school games expressly for that reason. The students themselves juggle classes, jobs, campus commitments and still manage to go to practice and play a full varsity schedule. They represent our college with heart and energy wherever they go,” said one nominator.

Of the honor, athletic director Lynn Rothenhoefer states, “This award is a great way to be recognized for the hard work, dedication and commitment each person in athletics puts forth to create some of the most important things to us 'community spirit' and 'Rosemont pride'. We take our part in the educational experience very seriously and hope that we can continue to build that opportunity into the future of Rosemont College.”

Head athletic trainer Suzanne Donaghue adds, “I am very honored and excited that we won this award. Our staff and student-athletes work so hard to embrace a positive Rambler spirit.”
