FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RAMBLER STUDENT-ATHLETE HITTING THE BOOKS THIS SUMMER

ROSEMONT, Pa- Junior softball co-captain Jessica Muff (Upper Darby, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) has been selected for a prestigious summer research project through the SouthEastern Pennsylvania Consortium for Higher Education (SEPCHE) entitled “Nurturing Student Scholars in Humanities and Social Sciences.” This project was only open to full-time junior or senior students from SEPCHE institutions that were in good academic standing. Muff was one of eight students from the SEPCHE institutions selected.

Muff was selected to research “Reluctant Warriors: Athena and Joan of Arc" due to her strong background in religious studies. She, along with a faculty mentor Marie A. Conn, PhD from Chestnut Hill College, will spend 10 weeks researching and formulating an essay based on the topic. This essay will be presented at a SEPCHE symposium in the fall for 2008 as well as the SEPCHE Honor Conference in March of 2009. This project will not only give Muff research experience but credits towards her degree and a stipend for her travel and efforts.

“I am extremely excited because I love doing research and I will receive credits for fall semester as well as a stipend,” said Muff.

As a student-athlete, Muff has been a three year starter on the softball team stepping into the co-captain’s role for the 2008 season. Off the field, she is the team’s representative for the Rosemont Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
