ROSEMONT – The Rosemont College Athletic Department has made history and named Ryan Tozer the new head coach of the men’s basketball team. This marks the first male athletic team in the school’s history as it transitions to coed education in the 2009-2010 school year.“I’m truly excited for this opportunity,” said Tozer. “I’m honored to be the first men’s basketball coach in the program’s history. It’s going to be a great challenge and great opportunity. I look forward to being able to offer young men the educational values so many Rosemont alumnae have benefited from.”

Tozer will spend the entirety of the 2008-2009 school year recruiting for the inaugural 2009-2010 season.

“I plan to get out and see anyone and everyone,” Tozer said. “I’ll be at every high school gym and every showcase. They’ll be no stone unturned. I’m ready and excited. I want to get that Rosemont name out there.”

Tozer comes to Rosemont after serving as the assistant coach at Holy Family University for two years. There he was in charge of recruitment and scouting and in coaching was responsible for offensive/defensive breakdowns and guard development.

Tozer began his coaching career at Interboro High School as the assistant men’s basketball coach where he assisted the team in pre-season practice and conditioning. From there, he went on to take a position on the La Salle University’s men’s basketball staff. There, he worked on scouting and video reviews for the team, helping them in finishing 18-10 in the 2005-06 season and placing third in the Atlantic-10 Conference.

“I’ve taken a lot from those positions,” added Tozer. “Organization, discipline, leadership, and passion are all things I’m ready to bring to Rosemont.”

As a player, Tozer was third all-time leading scorer at Eastern University with 1268 career points and was an all-conference selection all four years of his collegiate career.

Tozer received his Bachelor’s degree from Eastern University and is currently finishing up his Masters degree at Holy Family. He currently teaches at Richard Allen Prep Charter and resides in Norwood, Pa.
